Welcome to the Sign Of The Week.
Did you see that rain last week? ?
I was visiting schools all last week and I got drenched running in and out in the rain. And according to the weather forecast, there is more rain coming.
I guess winter is finally here!??
On rainy days children cannot go out to play in the yard and they have to stay indoors all day. I?could feel the extra energy in the classrooms with children being confined indoors all day!
Not being able to go outside during break time has an impact on all children, and even more so on children with special needs. Children with special needs generally prefer structure and routine, and not being able to go out involves a change in their routine.
Having a sign or symbol for RAIN to explain why they can?t go outside, will help the child understand and adjust to the change better. Take the time to bring children to the classroom window to see the rain and how wet it is outside. Then you might give them a choice of something nice they can do inside the classroom.
As the weather is getting colder and the weather forecast predicts more rain I have picked the sign for RAIN as the Sign of the Week starting on Monday the 11th of November.
I?ve included a video below to show the sign for RAIN, have a look and don?t forget to share your own experiences by leaving a comment below!
Have you introduced any social words to the children in your class yet?
I?d love to hear your thoughts and feedback.
What other signs would you like to learn?
Let me know and I will incorporate them into the Sign of The Week.
