Sign Of The Week – Please

Welcome to the Sign Of The Week.

The sign of the week, for the week starting on the 4th of November, is PLEASE.

I hope you are all having a great Halloween holiday and that you are enjoying using your Lámh signs so far.

I have had lots of requests from past students to show the sign for PLEASE. So I thought you may like to try it too!

While teachers are working on developing social skills with their students, they often introduce the word PLEASE first.
When I decided to teach the words for please and thank you, to my own son Sebastian, who has autism, I would prompt these words with Lámh signs.

It is important for all children to learn manners and social words, but children with language delays might need more time to understand and learn how and where to use these words.

So, when is the best time to introduce social words to children with language delay? It is best to wait until a child can communicate their needs and wants, make choices, and use language to interact with others (using words or Lámh). It is important to focus on language pragmatics first.

Have you introduced any social words to the children in your class yet?

I’ve included a video below to show the sign for PLEASE, have a look and don’t forget to share your own experiences by leaving a comment below!

I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback.
What other signs would you like to learn?
Let me know and I will incorporate them into the Sign of The Week.

Let’s #spreadthelámh this season.

Enjoy the video!
